Collaboration / Performance
Linda Duvall and Mary Kavanagh
May 21-31, 2008, RedHead Gallery, Toronto
A collaborative, durational work, Talking Project was performed at RedHead Gallery by Mary Kavanagh and Linda Duvall. Through the course of the two-week exhibition, the artists sat together and conversed during gallery hours, while visitors came and went, often joining them in conversation. While talking, note-taking, reading, laughing, crying, eating, moving around, the resulting dialogue was simultaneously projected in an adjacent space and the event was streamed live.
Talking Project examines the subject of private conversation within the context of public space. It explores the dynamic exchange between speaker and listener in relation to the conversational codes of conduct guided by social and cultural convention, tradition, and taboo.
